Choi was placed on the disabled list on Aug. 15 with a left rib cage strain.

He’s been rehabbing in Arizona and will make a final check with a live game.

Choi is batting .179 with a .239 on-base percentage and .440 slugging percentage in 30 games between the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego this season.

After missing most of the first half of the season with an Achilles injury, he was traded to a team in contention for the postseason, giving him a chance to rebound, but his new team has been hampered by injuries as well.

The team is also falling. As of June 6, they are in seventh place in the wild card standings, 6.5 games out of third place.

In seven games with San Diego, he is 1-for-11 with five walks and three strikeouts.

He will be eligible for free agency at the end of this season, having fulfilled his six years of service time.
