Coach Choi emphasizes ‘first defense, then counterattack’ “I expect Suwon to be aggressive”

Daegu FC will face Suwon in the round of 16 of the 2023 Hana OneQ Korea Football Association (FA) Cup at Suwon World Cup Stadium at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Daegu defeated Cheonan City FC 2-1 in extra time in the third round to reach the round of 16. They’ve been on a roll lately. Hana OneQ K League 1 2023 has won two and drawn one of its last three matches. They are on a two-game winning streak with away wins over Gwangju FC and Daejeon Hana Citizen.

Four days after the away game against Daejeon, they hosted Suwon in the FA Cup. In a pre-match interview, Daegu head coach Choi Won-kwon said, “We have a lot of injuries. I didn’t make many changes. We mainly used the players who played in the starting lineup.”

Serrato, who has had an up-and-down season, was named in the starting lineup against Suwon. Choi Won-kwon said, “Vaselus’ performance has 메이저놀이터 improved from the beginning of the season. He can add sharpness on the counterattack. Putting Serrato and Vassellus on from the first half was a message. We wanted to give them faith and responsibility, and Serrato has been working hard in training. I expect him to do a good job,” he said.

The Suwon team has been changing under Kim Byung-soo. Although they lost to leaders Ulsan Hyundai three days ago, they showed signs of rebounding with a 2-3 tie. Choi Won-kwon said, “I watched the game between Suwon and Ulsan. They are a team in a desperate position. The coach has changed and the players will have a lot to prove. I think they’re more desperate than Daegu. We don’t have many cards to play. It’s hard to change. The 11 players give everything every game. If Suwon comes out aggressive, it might actually help Daegu.”

He pinned his hopes on Lee Won-woo, a promising defender born in 2003. He will start against Suwon. “It was the same with (Park) Se-jin and (Hwang) Jae-won. We have to give them a chance. He’s a good talent. I know the difference between high school and the professional level,” he said, adding, “(Lee) Won-woo wants to play. He showed good form in K4. Suwon is a big team. If he does well in this match, he’ll improve, and I’m sure (Hong) Jung-woon and Keita will help him a lot.”

On Edgar’s availability, he said, “I trained one day yesterday. He was very determined to play against Suwon. There are no physical problems except for the injury. The medical staff gave me the OK. I thought I could play two or three minutes. The coach said I could play for 10 or 20 minutes. I’m trying to improve my form during the match,” he added.
