After a day of rest, Bae Ji-hwan (Pittsburgh) is back and looking “fresh.
Bae started in the eighth spot in the 토토사이트 lineup against the Oakland Athletics on Sunday at PNC Park. He went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, raising his batting average from 0.275 to 0.276 and his OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) slightly from 0.692 to 0.695.
Bae ran out of breath in the first inning. Pittsburgh starter Roanjy Contreras was busy catching balls that flowed toward the middle of the infield, allowing six hits to Oakland. After giving up five runs in one-third of an inning, Contreras was pulled, and Rob Jastrzyni came on in relief, but the bases were already loaded and he gave up two more runs. The score was 0-7, and the mood was completely lost.
In the bottom of the inning, Bae turned things around with a solo shot by Rodolfo Castro. In the top of the third, he hit an infield single to reach first base, but the next two batters struck out to end the inning.
After a grounder in the fourth and a straight hit in the seventh, Bae returned to the plate in the top of the ninth. He drew a walk and crossed home plate on a Brian Reynolds single. Bae scored a run, but it wasn’t enough to tie the game.
Pittsburgh fell to 5-9 and dropped its second straight to Oakland. In two games, Bae went 2-for-6 with two doubles, two walks, one stolen base, and two runs scored.
